Abstract:

  • SoundScapes: Environment Generation Through Voice, Ambient Noise, and Alternative Perceptions of Reality is an immersive, experiential sound-visualization application built for browsers and virtual reality headsets. SoundScapes is a culmination of user experience research on audio interactions and explorations of the JavaScript coding language. The project was inspired by our recognition of the unexplored potential of new experiences in human/computer interaction through audio analysis and visualization. In our latest prototype, users are presented with a particle-based environment that reacts to the amplitude and frequency of speech and ambient noise. While our current prototype is meant to immerse the user in a meditative experience, we are already looking at applications such as adding a new analytic and experiential dimension to speeches and crowd reactions.
