Artist Statement:
Oh Brother series features a journey into the virtual world, with Irworobongdo (a painting of a ‘sun and moon and five peaks’) as its background. The characters in this virtual world represent the artist herself, while also metaphorically reflecting us, those living in contemporary society. Violent Boy, with an abusive nature of human, Floating Boy, who looks oneself and dissolves the ego, and Nature Boy, who transcends anthropocentrism to merge with nature, all lead to philosophical and profound questions about the self and the other. Kim’s work reflects reality through a fantastical and mysterious virtual world, raising important questions we must confront.
