STD10 is a work that utilizes elements based on mathematical inquiry and learning as musical tools. Inquiry and experimentation play essential roles in human development across various fields and purposes. In the realm of art, they serve not only as preparatory steps preceding creation but also as crucial factors that shape the meaning and direction of the artistic process.
This work emerged from the artist’s process of exploring and studying mathematics and science as part of artistic creation. In acquiring and understanding new knowledge, the artist encountered aesthetic value within the act of learning itself. Rather than focusing solely on the completed artwork, STD10 attempts to express the process of “coming to understand and engage with a field” as an art form. Sound was chosen as the medium for this expression. Both learning and sound exist in intangible forms. By drawing on this shared invisibility, the work transforms the process of learning into an auditory experience. Through this translation, it effectively reveals the aesthetics of inquiry while departing from conceptual music-making, offering a novel approach to musical creation.
