Jun Ahn begins her work by questioning how artificial intelligence understands abstract nouns that can be interpreted in various ways depending on cultural and individual values, and how to visualize them. Among many image-generative AI programs, she uses Bing, developed by Microsoft, to create images. Bing considers certain words, such as ‘yourself’ and ‘God,’ and blocks them. The artist boldly requests the creation of ‘the image of artificial intelligence itself,’ as well as ‘the image of God,’ which no one has ever seen and has no physical form. After the image is generated, Bing immediately recognizes the blocked words and retrieves the image, but the artist captures the image just before it is removed and completes A Room for You and God series. To avoid Bing’s censorship, the artist gradually changes the prompt and requests a photograph of ‘a scene on a morning when you are standing in a room with your portrait on the wall’.
