Born in 1953, Nan Goldin grew up in Boston. Her sister’s suicide left its mark on her and she began photographing when she was 18. Her photographic work is fueled only by events from her own life. In the wake of the Beat Generation and of the experiment of the Andy Warhol Factory, the artist reestablished the signs of an American culture liberated from its taboos but still worried about ethics.
