Abstract:
Autoconstruccion is a real-time audiovisual project involving live coding1 processes and live cinema2, an artistic practice we’ve coined as live cinema coding, in addition to live programming processes and algorithmic music composition with Tidal Cycles3. This research entails procedural and/or generative animation and 3D simulation using the Unreal Engine4 gaming platform, as well as machine learning algorithms for visual and sonic research methodology. Self-construction stems from an investigation exploring the phenomenon of informal housing in various regions of the world, presenting and imagining a dystopian future through speculative architecture fictions and potential urban environments. This article describes the creative and technical processes behind the Self-construction project.
