James Wallbank is an artist, free technology advocate, and CEO of Access Space, the UK’s longest running free media lab. He hasn’t bought any hardware or software for ten years. Now Access Space is developing a research hub investigating sustainable strategies for community digital empowerment.

James Wallbank is an artist, designer, educator and activist who coordinated Redundant Technology Initiative a Sheffield-based arts organization that works with (so-called) obsolete technology headed for the landfill. Throughout 1996 James worked as “Digital Artist in Residence” at Sunderland University and has; made presentations with a bearing on this theme at the ‘Digital Dreams’ conference and at London’s ‘Blackspace’.
