  • Born in 1989 in Olean, New York, Alexander Derwick was introduced to the basic elements that would accelerate his way of communicating. Derwick uses drawing, animation, printmaking, and simple storytelling techniques in his work but was unaware of his possibilities of interconnecting his thoughts and action until college. He was accepted into the visual arts program at SUNY Purchase in 2007 where he was quickly introduced to printmaking and more specifically, the family of intaglio. He graduated from SUNY Purchase with a BFA in printmaking in 2011 and directly enrolled into the graduate program at University at Buffalo. Derwick learned to drop his fetishizing of printmaking so that his concepts could live inherently within whichever medium they called for. Derwick ventured into photography, animation, and wider forms of collaboration and graduated with his MFA from University at Buffalo in 2013.
