    Kevin S. Badni, is the Head of Art and Design, in the College of Architecture, Art and Design at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. His terminal degree is in Multimedia, awarded by De Montfort University in the UK. Before becoming an academic he spent ten years working in the design industry including managing the UK’s first commercial Virtual Reality center. Beyond teaching design and multimedia courses, Kevin’s interests in New Media Art have manifested in a number of related academic journal papers, conference paper presentations and had his art exhibited in galleries in the UK, Australia and the UAE. Kevin’s main area of interest is the personal perceptions of vision, using augmented, virtual reality and eye tracking tools to create engaging art pieces.

    Kevin Badni worked for 10 years as an Industrial Designer and Digital Media Manager before becoming an academic. During his academic career Kevin was the Masters program Director at Loughborough University’s Design School before taking his current position as Head of Department of Art and Design at the American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Kevin’s research interest areas lies in the use of augmented and virtual reality and the engagement of high-end technology to create visually engaging art. Kevin has exhibited at the Design Centre, London, City Art Gallery and Cube Gallery, Leicester, Righton Gallery, Manchester and The Poly in Falmouth in the UK and the Object Gallery, Sydney in Australia.

    Kevin Badni is the Dean of the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises. Prior to joining Zayed University, Kevin was the Head of Art and Design at the American University of Sharjah. Kevin also held an administrative role as Director of Master’s Programmes as well as being a Senior Lecturer (British designate) at Loughborough University’s Design School in the UK.  Kevin received his Master’s degree in Multimedia from De Montfort University and is currently completing his PhD with Loughborough University.  Kevin is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a reviewer for various journals and conferences as well as an associate editor or for the Media-N journal of the New Media Caucus.

    Before becoming an academic Kevin spent ten years as a professional designer in Britain’s creative industries, working with numerous clients ranging from small entrepreneurs through to blue-chip clients. He has managed large government and European research grants and had the privilege of running the UK’s first commercial Virtual Reality centre. Along with design patents Kevin was also awarded a British Design Council Product Design Award for a digitally secure medical transport box.

    Kevin has been an invited speaker and panel member at both university and government level and has acted as an expert technical witness in patent cases.  Kevin is also a practicing artist and designer, having his work exhibited in Sydney, Chicago, Bogotá, Venice, Sharjah and Dubai as well as numerous art spaces in London and the rest of the UK. His work is currently on sale at the Pro Art gallery in Dubai.
