While Mandla Matsha was performing and touring with theatre music and dance productions, he composed music that is now part of AfroGong’s repertoire. AfroGong is a Durban-based music project spearheaded by Mandla. Their music is not confined to one genre; it is a fusion of influences and experiences from various codes of music, from reggae to jazz, RnB, classical, to Afrofunk. In 2012, Mandla received an award from KZN Dance Link for musical service to dance, and in 2014 AfroGong was awarded the Outstanding Cultural Calabash Artist from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
