Ruff is one of the leaders of a new generation of Germans. In particular, he explores the need for analogical illusion and desire of identification that makes us look for a demonstration of an event, of identity or of true existence in a photograph. His photographs refer to objects from the outside world, sometimes spectacularly, but they also confront us with the necessity to wonder about where we fit in compared with them (physically and mentally), in the sense of what we are looking for in them or what we project onto them.
