José-Carlos Mariátegui is a writer, curator, scholar and entrepreneur on culture, and technology. Dr. Mariátegui is the founder of Alta Tecnología Andina – ATA, an organization working at the intersection of art, science, technology and society in Latin America. His multidisciplinary research embraces media archaeology, digitization, archives and the impact of technology in memory institutions. He is a Lecturer at LUISS (Rome), Research Fellow at the Department of Media and Communications of the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Board Member of Future Everything (UK). A former Board Member of the Museo de Arte de Lima – MALI (2013-2021), he chairs MALI’s Education Committee, and leads the museum’s digital strategy. Has published in journals such as AI & Society, Third Text, The Information Society, Telos and Leonardo and curated art and technology projects internationally for more than two decades. He recently co-edited a special issue for AI & Society on Cybernetics in Latin America.

He studied Biology and Applied Mathematics at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (Lima), a Master in Information Systems at the London School of Economics – LSE (London), and a PhD in which he investigated the growth of information in the media industry. Founder of Alta Tecnología Andina – ATA, dedicated to the development of projects in art, science and technology in Latin America and co-founder and director of Escuelab.org.

Jose Carlos Mariategui is a scientist and media theorist with a combined degree in Biology and Mathematics, and an M.Sc in Information Systems. He is a founding member of Alta Tecnologia Andina, a non-for-profit organization for the development and research of artistic and scientific theories in Latin America. He is also the founder of the VAE Festival in Lima, Peru. He has taught, researched and published extensively on the themes of art, science, technology and society. He was the curator of several international exhibitions of media art such as: Nueva/Vista: Videokunst aus Lateinamerica, ViaSatelite and Videografias In(visibles). He acts as a node in the Tester project. He is currently a Ph.D student in Information Systems at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He lives in London, UK.

José-Carlos Mariáteguiis a scientist, writer, curator and scholar on culture, new media and technology. Born in 1975, he is (the) grandson of Jose Carlos Mariategui, the most influential Latin American Marxist thinker of the 20th Century.
