Artist Statement:

Paul Simpson explores the deep in one-man submarine Skyray after years spent navigating the congested shipping lanes of popular music. Skyray’s debut CD Tranquilliser (Ochre, May 1998) met with critical acclaim in the British music press prompting Jon Savage in MOJO to cite it as his contender for album of the year, describing it as “… disciplined but free, pleasurable but deceptively complex.” Liverpool luminary Simpson’s next project Womb described as an amniotic concerto is set for an Autumn release on the influential Space Age Recordings label while 1997’s Neptune Variations has been chosen by the BBC for use on a weekly TV programme.
