    Otto Piene [1928-2014]. Born 1928 in Germany, he studied art and philosophy after World War II and in 1957 founded Group Zero. He lived in New York, then studied at the Massachussetts Institute of Technology where he obtained a doctorate, was Fellow, Professor and Director of the Center for Advanced Visual Studies until 1994. He also directed the SKY Art Conference from 1981 to 1986 and other large projects in media, performance, architecture and sky art.was the first fellow of MIT’s Center for Advanced Visual Studies (CAVS) and its Director from 1974 until his retirement in 1994.
