Weidi Zhang (born 1991) is a new media artist/designer based in Los Angeles and Phoenix. She is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of immersive experience design at the Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) center of Arizona State University. Her interdisciplinary art and design research investigates A Speculative Assemblage at the intersection of immersive media design, experimental data visualization, and interactive AI art. She holds her Ph.D. degree in Media Arts and Technology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, an MFA degree in Art + Technology at the California Institute of the Arts, and a BFA degree in Photo/Media at the University of Washington, Seattle. She lectured at both UC Santa Barbara and The Ohio State University.

Weidi Zhang is an LA-based new media artist and researcher. Her current research and media art practices investigate A Speculative Assemblage – interactive image-data-based visualization of a human-machine reality in the context of data visualization, responsive Intelligence system design, and immersive media. Her works are featured at international venues, such as the SIGGRAPH Art Gallery Best In Show, ISEA, Times Art Museum (CN), Japan Media Arts Festival, Lumen Prize (UK), SIGGRAPH ASIA, IEEE VISAP, Planetarium 1 (RUS), Zeiss-Planetarium (GE), Society For Arts and Technology (CAN), and others. Currently, she is a Ph.D. candidate in the Media Arts and Technology Program and a graduate researcher in Experimental Visualization Lab. She lectures at UC Santa Barbara and The Ohio State University. She holds her MFA degree in Art + Technology at the California Institute of the Arts and a BFA degree in Photo/Media at the University of Washington, Seattle.

Weidi Zhangis a new media artist and visual designer. Her current research and media art practice interest is investigating the possibilities of non-linear narrativity and semantic meanings through intelligent system design and spatial visualization in immersive environments. Her works are featured at different venues internationally, such as the SIGGRAPH 2019 art gallery, Japan Media Arts Festival ‘Juried Selections’, Times Art Museum, IEEE VisAP, SwissNex Gallery, etc. Currently, she is a Ph.D. candidate in the Media Arts and Technology Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She holds her MFA degree in Art + Technology at California Institute of the Arts. As a visual designer and concept artist, she was selected into WDI (Walt Disney Imagineering) blue sky project working as a concept artist in 2015. She has been working as a visual designer in the award-winning design studio (30sixty) in LA for key art and package design for TV shows.
