    Boris Debackere (NL) is Lab Manager at V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media in Rotterdam, an instigator of artistic projects which interrogate and illuminate contemporary issues in art, science, technology, and society. He is also a researcher lecturing at the Media and Information Design department of LUCA School of Arts. As a media artist focusing on sound, his practice revolves around the materiality and performativity of media that appear as virtual environments.

    Boris Debackere is an artist and researcher lecturing at LUCA School of Arts, KU Leuven, Belgium. Debackere is currently serving as the head of V2_Lab in Rotterdam, Netherlands, an instigator of artistic projects that interrogate and illuminate contemporary issues in art, science, technology, and society. As a media artist, his primary interest lies in the interplay of art with the social and technological space. In the field of digital art, his practice has a multimedial character with a recurring key concept: to experience the materiality and performativity of a medium that might appear to be a virtual environment. Debackere received the Liedts-Meesen new media nomination 2010, won the Georges Delete 2014 Prize for Best Original Music and Sound Design and received the 2015 Ensor Sound Design Award.

    Boris De­backere is man­ager of the V2_lab, media artist and teach­ing at Trans­me­dia, a post­grad­u­ate pro­gram in Arts + Media + De­sign in Brus­sel (B). As a media artist his main in­ter­est is the pos­si­ble in­te­gra­tion of dif­fer­ent ex­pres­sion forms, with an em­pha­sis on elec­tronic sound and image. Most re­cent work and re­search is con­cen­trated on trans­lat­ing and trans­form­ing the cin­ema con­cept into other forms like Live Cin­ema per­for­mances and au­dio­vi­sual in­stal­la­tions. His work in­cludes ‘vor­tices’ and ‘probe’ re­ac­tive in­stal­la­tions deal­ing with the re­la­tion­ship be­tween the viewer and the screen.
