    Clea T. Waite, Ph.D. is an intermedia artist, scholar, engineer, and experimental filmmaker whose artworks investigate the material poetics that emerge at the intersection of art, science, and technology. She creates immersive, cinematic works engaging embodied perception, dynamic composition, and sensual interfaces – as well as one inter-species collaboration with several hundred tropical spiders. Her themes examine climate change, astronomy, particle physics, history, feminism, and popular culture. Waite received her Ph.D. at the University of Southern California in interdisciplinary Media Arts + Practice, combining a background in physics and computer graphics from the MIT Media Lab with her current research in cinema, media art, and critical theory. She brings a unique blend of expertise to her projects from which cross-disciplinary synergies emerge.

Waite has been a Humboldt Fellow, a Radcliffe Fellow, CERN artist-in-residence, and fellow at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, Germany. Her awards include the National Academies Keck Futures Initiative, the IBM Innovation Prize for Artistic Creation in Art and Technology, and the Medienboard Berlin/Brandenburg.

    Clea T. Waite, US, is a research artist scholar and experimental filmmaker whose motion pictures balance unconventional aesthetic exploration with innovative realisation. Her somatic, cinematic works explore immersion, stereoscopic imaging, spatial montage and unique interfaces, as well as one inter‑species collaboration with several hundred spiders. Waite graduated from the MIT Media Lab as a physicist and computer graphics developer. She was founding Associate Professor of Digital Montage at the Academy of Film and Television Babelsberg, Germany and has held positions at the Pratt Institute, New York and the University of Arts, Berlin. She is now pursuing her PhD at the USC School of Cinematic Arts in Media Arts and Practice.
